What's been happening lately is the slow dawning on me of how much I actually missed writing every day. I didn't even know it, because I was so wrapped up in the other things I was doing - gaming, designing, programming - that I'd forgotten that even though writing can be hard work, it can also be incredibly fun.
For NaNo I find myself writing scenes and getting truly excited about them. I'm writing characters that I enjoy, moving toward ideas I really look forward to getting down on the page (or the screen). It's been great fun, and I've managed to write far more than the count needed for 50k by the end of the month.
I have no doubt that no matter how much fun I'm having writing, I will hit burn out come December - it's a yearly habit that I can't seem to avoid. But it may be that if I can at least remember how much I'm loving this story right now, it will keep me from leaving it so long before I pick it up again in the new year.
